Songs for April 24th 2016

John 11:1-6 Now a certain man was ill, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. It was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was ill. So the sisters sent to him, saying, “Lord, he whom you love is ill.” But when Jesus heard it he said, “This illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”

Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. So, when he heard that Lazarus[a]was ill, he stayed two days longer in the place where he was.

Even in our suffering, God continues to be sovereign. If He is not in total control over pain, suffering, and death then He is not sovereign at all. Therefore, if that were the case, he would cease to be God. Jesus is sovereign over all and He is a loving God. Because he is both sovereign and loving this is good news. We do not serve a malignant, sovereign God or a benign, powerless God, but one who is both sovereign and good. The songs this week point to this reality of Jesus being sovereign and good to us even in our suffering
