More Than Music

Posted by Dustin Raley on

In this Worship & Music blog, I hope to give you a larger, biblical picture of worship. I fear that today we only associate worship with music on Sunday mornings. This is most likely because we refer to it as worship; and it is! Scripture is clear in communicating that singing and making music to God is an act of worship. Singing to the Lord is very significant and is excellent in stirring our affections for Christ. But I don't want us to be stuck there.

In the New Testament, worship explicitly extends to every part of our lives, even to what and how we eat and drink (1 Cor. 10:31 ESV). The apostle Paul also tells us in Romans, "I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship" (12:1 ESV). We are commanded to not only give our voices, but also our bodies! Everything we are should be engaged in worship to Jesus.

My hope for you is that you will broaden your view of worship AND experience more freedom and joy in corporate worship, while ultimately growing in your obedience to and love for Jesus.
